Electromagnetic Fields and Radio Frequencies

York Electric Cooperative, Inc. (YEC) always wants our members to stay safe around electricity. Many have had concerns about electromagnetic fields, also known as radio frequency, that could be a result of the transmission and distribution of electricity along power lines.

We encourage our members to complete their own research on this matter. However, the frequencies created from power lines are very low on the electromagnetic spectrum. In fact, many other household items and common practices such as televisions and microwaves are higher.

Furthermore, studies show the frequencies created from power lines are not known to be harmful to the human body.

Helpful resources for you to consider while researching electromagnetic fields and radio frequency can be found at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the Environmental Protection Agency.
