Co-op warns members about scam callers

York Elec­tric Coop­er­a­tive is alert­ing mem­bers to an appar­ent scam involv­ing indi­vid­u­als call­ing mem­bers, pos­ing as a rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the co-op. The scam caller states that imme­di­ate pay­ment is need­ed to avoid dis­con­nec­tion of elec­tric ser­vice.

Mem­bers should call YEC at (803) 684‑4248 if they have ques­tions about their account or to report if they receive a sus­pi­cious call. Mem­ber ser­vices rep­re­sen­ta­tives can help con­firm pay­ment and bal­ance due on a mem­ber’s account.

Cred­it card num­bers and per­son­al infor­ma­tion should nev­er be giv­en to sus­pi­cious callers. If you receive a sus­pi­cious call, mail­ing, email or oth­er type of unusu­al con­tact, you should con­tact local law enforce­ment.
