How to cut your power bill—really!
Just as there is no magic weight-loss pill, there is no magic box that reduces your electric bill. To lose weight, we need to consume fewer calories; to reduce our electric bills, we need to reduce our kilowatt-hour consumption.
This can be accomplished through small adjustments. Things like using compact fluorescent light bulbs, lowering your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower in the winter and raising it to 78 or higher in the summer, changing furnace and air conditioner filters monthly, lowering water heater settings to 120 degrees, or preventing the loss of heated or cooled air by adding insulation and by sealing drafts and cracks around doors and windows with caulk or weatherstripping.
