South Carolina co-op members chalk up record prescription discounts.

$2.8 MILLION—that’s how much mem­bers of South Car­oli­na’s Touch­stone Ener­gy Coop­er­a­tives saved on pre­scrip­tions in 2012 using their Co-op Con­nec­tions cards. It was anoth­er record year for mem­ber sav­ings with the dis­count card. Total sav­ings hit $2,823,086.10, beat­ing the 2011 tal­ly by about $400,000. Total sav­ings since the pro­gram began in South Car­oli­na in 2007 now stands at $9,395,335.20, accord­ing to Touch­stone Ener­gy, the nation­wide elec­tric co-op alliance that admin­is­ters the Co-op Con­nec­tions pro­gram. Local­ly, York Elec­tric mem­bers have saved $624,830 since the co-op intro­duced the pro­gram in May 2009. Our mem­bers saved $167,165 in 2012 and, already this year, have reduced their pre­scrip­tion costs by anoth­er $62,334.
