The 72nd Annual Meeting of the Members of York Electric Cooperative was held Saturday, May 11, at YEC’s main office, located at 1385 East Alexander Love Highway in York.

- Students, including Kay Larussa and Tracie Coyne, from York Comprehensive High School’s ROTC program once again helped the Lions Club serve up hotdogs – four for a dollar!
- There were plenty of other food choices and Michael Burdette made sure members heard about the barbecue from Masonic Lodge 111 in Rock Hill.
- There were plenty of Mike Smith’s fresh, hot pork rinds, another perennial crowd favorite.
- Cotton candy and other treats were finger-licking good to twins Maddy and Brannon Cunningham, 4, and little brother Austin, 1.
- Peaches the dachshund seems to be towing owner Rocky Roberts to the meeting.
- Around the corner, Phyllis Adams and Dale Wilson shake a leg to the music of the Carolina Rhythm Band.
- Young songstress Jasmine Buckley, 16, borrowed a guitar and gave the band a one-song break.
- Lane Huffstetler, 1, tries out one of the recycling bins that the York County Solid Waste & Recycling Authority gave to YEC members, while supplies lasted. Looking on is his brother, Levi, 3. Other members received free oil-change pans.
- Emcee Lou Green had fun with guests like Victoria Carter, who helped him whistle the theme to The Andy Griffith Show to win $5.
- Ella Kate Hare, 3 months old, was the youngest person at the meeting.
- The color guard from York Comprehensive High School’s Navy JROTC program helps open the business meeting.
- Kansas Norris, 2, had the best seat in the house – just below the color guard’s flags.
- Congressman Mick Mulvaney leads the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Co-op members bow their heads for the invocation.
- CEO Paul Basha points out that YEC members have saved almost $625,000 on prescriptions using their Co-op Connections cards.
- Board Chairman Dick Burrell reports to the membership.
- The crowd listens as winners are called in the prize drawing.
- Emily Freeman, 14, temporarily became the most powerful person at the meeting, just by pulling the winning tickets!
- Fred Jordan wins a gift bag from Comporium.
- Nancy Glenn claims a 24-inch LED LCD TV for her mom, Leitha Moffatt.
- Jamey Henderson wins a 9.4 gallon Yeti cooler.
- Kathy Rose won one of two grand prizes, a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
- The other grand prize, a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado extended-cab pickup truck, went to James Warren – and just in time, it would seem: He’d been driving a 1972 Chevy pickup he called “Old Blue” for many years.
