Small change changes lives

Small changes saves lives.
A little goes a long way to help our community.

YEC members have a unique opportunity to help their neighbors who are experiencing hardships. Members participating in Operation Round Up have their bills rounded up to the nearest dollar in an effort to assist those in need. The average contribution per member is $6 a year, and it goes a long way to help many members who need assistance.

Fifteen local families were assisted in August with approximately $19,673 being donated. Additionally, four local non-profit agencies (A Place for Hope, Inc., The Upper Palmetto Chapter of the American Red Cross, Carolina Community Care and The Children’s Attention Home, Inc.) received $3,000 each to assist more individuals with immediate needs.

“During some of the most difficult economic times, our members continue to donate to a program that gives all of the money directly back to the community,” said Marc Howie, vice president of community development. “It is only through their generosity that we are able to assist in this manner.” Since 2000 YEC’s Operation Round Up program has donated more than $1.7 million to local individuals and organizations with crucial needs such as food, shelter, clothing and healthcare.

    Category: Operation Round Up FAQ

Contributions to Operation Round Up are tax deductible. In January and February, your utility bill will have a summary of the contributions you made to Operation Round Up during the previous year.

    Category: Operation Round Up FAQ

Operation Round Up is a voluntary contribution on your electric bill which adds a few pennies each month. The most you could ever donate in a year would be $12, but most members’ donations are around $6 per year. These pennies are added together from all our participating members, and York Electric’s Trust Board makes grants to non-profit agencies who are serving needs in our community. Since 2000, York Electric’s members have raised approximately $2.3 million, and we now have 62% member participation.
